There is a creature that is visible within range that you attempt to send to another location of existence. In order to avoid being Banishment, the target needs to succeed on a Charisma saving throw.
You can banish the target to a harmless Demiplane if the target is native to the plane of existence you are on. During the banishment, the target is incapacitated. Once the spell ends, the target remains there until the spell ends, at which point it reappears in the space it left, or in the nearest unoccupied space, if that space is occupied.

It is expelled with a faint popping sound,

returning back to its native plane of existence if the target is native to another plane of existence than the one you are in. The target reappears in the space it left or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space has already been occupied if the spell ends before 1 minute has elapsed. If the spell ends after 1 minute, the target does not return.
At higher levels, this spell is able to target one additional creature for every slot level you gain above the fourth level, when cast in a spell slot of 5th level or higher.
